Oil pastel and graphite
9x 12
It's been three weeks since the beginning of term at school. I addition to teaching, I'm taking a class at the Book and Paper Arts Center this term. The class teaches us how to build book structures and also wed them to a concept. It's making me think about how all elements in putting the book together must support the underlying idea. Good practice for picture making in general.
This is another one from the Wilmington trip Craig and I made in January to see the ice dam.

that sounds really interesting - I hope you'll write up what you do and learn :>)
another nice painting - you know I'd trim a bit off the bottom - but then I'm forever cropping stuff!
Brr! I can really feel the chill. This is lovely - and I think the faces in the following post are exceptional!
Thanks Vivien and Casey. Casey it HAS been so cold this winter. Today it's around 0 degrees after being a spring like 45 yesterday. I think I'm getting tired of the cold and I feel ready to move the waterways project forward to budding trees VERY SOON!
Vivien, its funny you should say this. After I posted, I thought about cropping the lower 1" from the bottom. Thanks for the suggestion.
Vivien, I forgot to say that I'll deffinitely be sharing what I learn from my class. Today we learned several ways to transfer images and text. Two of these were very easy and next to non-toxic. More later!!
Wanted to come by and congratulate you on the Significant Blogger award from Laketrees! You have a very intriguing blog.
THanks very much imwithsully. I really appreicated her award!
Lindsay is this your first time with books? I love making books but it has been quite some time since I have done one.
Now I'm off to see your face to face project.
Toni, I messed around with a few simple structures but was not really satisfied with my results. Although this class is not a strict book binding class, we arelearning a few structures that are new to me. I can't wait to learn how to make a real sketchbook with sewn signatures.
