This week, I wanted to try to work from a number of resources to come up with an imaginative series of masks. I used a book on masks and a fashion illustration text book as resource material. I've never done this and it was a blast. My jumping off point was a fashion illustration text. I seem to be able to enter art stuff more easily through my fashion design training. But really, this was an excuse to have a fun time. I've botched up 2 large paintings this month and I'm really feeling discouraged with big work. So these sketches keep me moving forward.

Your mask series is very imaginative.
Keep it up!
On your big works, do you do an underpainting? Do you start with a value study? Sometimes I do a complete study in gray, first.
Do you use solvents?
Just some thoughts in a random way.
Also, do you stand away from the painting?
They are big on masks in Italy, BTW.

Casey, you ask some very good questions. I think I will always will be able to just flail away...but a PLAN is a good idea! Thanks.
Mardi Gras! I need to look at some of those masks too!

Hey, Lindsay--can you see me? I'm at O'Hare airport ;D. Really! Tried to leave a comment last night but Blogger was hiccuping. I really like the bold forthrightness of these----and the strong colors, too.
